In Conversation: Decolonising Science and RE in P4C

Join Pranav Patel, author of The Anti Racist Educator (Published by Corwin 2022) and Founder of DecoloniseTheCurriculum.com and TheTeacherist.com with SAPERE Project Manager, Jane Yates.

In this SAPERE “In Conversation” webinar, Pran will present a thoughtful provocation for science and RE educators highlighting some important concepts in decolonising the curriculum in P4C.

This FREE webinar is aimed primarily at secondary RE and science teachers and educators. Subject leaders in primary RE and science are also encouraged.

This online event will navigate a series of topical questions, such as:

• What facilitation ‘concepts’ are important to consider for P4C practitioners? E.g. positionality, positivism, constructivism and hypocrisy.
• What does it mean to decolonise the curriculum in RE and science – in the context of P4C?
• How can critical thinking contribute to personal knowledge in RE?  building awareness of presuppositions and values about the religious and non-religious traditions studied.
• Do critical thinking strategies and structures alone create a sense of wisdom?
• How do we foster an environment where questioning is the norm? where all views are heard and interrogated

The event will be hosted by Jane Yates, a SAPERE P4C Trainer and Project Manager for the Thinking Together in Science and RE Project.

Pranav Patel, Founder of TheTeacherist.com and DecoloniseTheCurriculum.com and author of The Anti Racist Educator (Published by Corwin 2022)

Pranav is an educator with nearly two decades of experience across primary, secondary, and higher education. As a member of the global majority, he has been witness to the impact of oppression through his work with students, as a teacher, and as a leader. Pranav’s commitment and sustained work towards greater equity is long-standing – for him, change comes from action, and now is the time to act.

He has spent his life living by the words from Frederick Douglass and should we all.
