Launching the SAPERE Social Impact Report

SAPERE’s work, and the benefit of philosophical enquiry in general, has always had impact at multiple levels. We give individuals the opportunity and the tools to reason and articulate for themselves; we give the group or community the norms and the competencies to think and talk together; and then the facilitators and participants in these communities of enquiry move out into wider society, taking with them and disseminating a more reflective, reasoning, collaborative approach.

As our co-directors Grace Lockrobin and Emma Swinn say in our new Social Impact Report for 2022-23:

“We believe in the importance of SAPERE’s mission and vision to transform education
through philosophical enquiry. We also believe this vision goes beyond school education
and into the wider world.

There is a stereotype of the philosopher as someone who spends time in solitary
thought, but this is not true of the philosophical enquiry that we advocate. P4C is a
communal activity; its aim is to help people of all ages and abilities to think well
together, so that they can think well for themselves.”
