This World Philosophy Day: Experience P4C

When was the last time you had a really good conversation?

SAPERE P4C is Philosophy for Children, Colleges and Communities, and besides its profound impact on students, we believe that engaging in philosophical conversation helps teachers, parents, and people from all walks of life, to think together and to think for themselves. Because philosophy is for everyone.

“Experience P4C” is a two-hour webinar aimed at teachers, parents and other professionals working with young people and the public, and anyone else curious about the power of philosophical enquiry.

The session will show you what it’s like to philosophise, introducing you to the ethos of P4C, the versatile practices of question-forming and reason-giving, and the kind of concepts and questions ripe for philosophical investigation.

For participants inspired by this experience to learn more, you will be able to build on this session by completing the five further modules of the new SAPERE Level One course, which launches spring 2024.

The first interactive Experience P4C webinars will be led by SAPERE Co-Director Grace Lockrobin. Announcing Experience P4C today, Grace said:

We know that when teachers and students are exposed to Philosophy for Children they tend to love it, and that it can have a profound impact on classroom thinking, school culture, and ultimately educational outcomes. But what we’ve also been hearing for years, increasingly, is that gaining that ‘first taste’ of P4C is under budgetary pressure, constraints on teacher time, and a particular political focus on ‘knowledge’- at the expense of ‘skills’-based learning. Now, we absolutely stand by our full training in P4C pedagogy: our Foundation training is a 2-day course with a 96% approval rating! But we also know that it’s often when you see or take part in your first P4C enquiry that many teachers have a kind of revelation, realising what philosophical enquiry can mean for you and your pupils.

“So, Experience P4C is your way – in just a few hours – to take that first, eye-opening leap into a deeper, more critical, more meaningful relationship with thoughts, ideas… and each other. And if you do get inspired, as we think you will, then this session will count as credit equivalent to the first module of our full training. This also means you won’t have to pay for it again, even if you choose to repeat that wonderful first-experience part of the course.”

To celebrate World Philosophy Day, all places on the first “Experience P4C” course are offered at £25, a 50% discount on the regular price of £50. If (when!) you book the rest of a Level 1 course, the price of the Experience P4C module will be deducted from the cost of the full course (so you know you only ever have to pay for it once).
