Our Gold Award is for schools or departments where a school or department has fully embedded P4C so that it is reflected in the school’s/department’s ethos, strategy, teaching and learning.
Gold Award
Assessment for a Gold Award includes a visit from one of our trainers to see your P4C work in action.
Our assessment considers how well pupils are doing in P4C, how teachers are developing their skills, and how well P4C is being supported across the school. For more details download our Awards Criteria document below. Please note that for a Gold Award you will have a school visit from one of our team to assess P4C in person.

How to apply for a Gold Award
We would normally expect a school to have been doing P4C for three full years before being ready to apply for the Gold Award. Only schools which have already achieved the Silver Award are eligible to apply for Gold.
Please read our Gold Award Evidence Guidelines before completing the application form.
When you are ready, please contact us to arrange a date for your Gold award visit by emailing awards@thoughtful.org.uk. We will arrange a mutually convenient date for the Gold Award visit. Please note we may need up to a term’s notice to arrange this. In the case of applications submitted after May half-term, visits will take place in the following Autumn term.
Prior to your arranged visit taking place, we ask that you send your completed form and evidence to awards@thoughtful.org.uk. If you are attaching large files, please send via Dropbox or WeTransfer.
There is an application fee of £500 for the Gold Award. Please contact accounts@thoughtful.org.uk to arrange payment.
Please note that if your school is signed up to a Grow P4C Programme, the fee for the Gold School Award is included in your programme of training and support.
Need extra support to get to Gold?
Becoming a Gold school is quite a challenge, and we can help support you to get there either through some informal additional training depending on your needs to get from Silver to Gold, or through the Grow P4C Programme – which comes with additional benefits and discounts.

How long are Awards valid for?
Our Gold Awards are valid for three years from the date of the Award – though many schools progress to Gold before the end of the initial three years. After three years, we will ask you to apply either for your Gold Award or for re-accreditation at Silver.
To reapply for Gold, please download the renewal application form or contact awards@thoughtful.org.uk
The re-accreditation fee is £300 and includes a half day visit from our trainer – the Award will last for another three years.
