Classes

Our classes enable teachers, students, and community groups to experience philosophical enquiry led by an expert Thoughtful Facilitator.

A class is a philosophy session designed and led by an experienced Thoughtful facilitator.

From school assemblies to philosophy clubs, and from team-building workshops to philosophy in pubs, classes can be offered as one-off events or as part of a regular, long-term programme.

Some organisations commission classes to access the benefits of philosophical education when they lack the capacity to lead it themselves. Others use classes to launch P4C, model best practice, or complement their current work on oracy, metacognition, or wellbeing.

Sessions can be delivered in-person or online, using our existing class formats or designed especially to meet your needs.

Philosophy for Colleges

Free Philosophy Classes for Colleges — Funded by The Royal Institute of Philosophy

We’re offering colleges in Sheffield, Cumbria, London, Southampton and Manchester the chance to take part in a fully-funded philosophy programme, supported by The Royal Institute of Philosophy.

What’s included:

  • 6 hours of philosophy sessions, delivered by an experienced facilitator specialising in Philosophy for Colleges and Communities (P4C)
  • Sessions built around collaborative enquiry, using open-ended questions and discussion to explore ideas that matter to students – topics can be shaped around their interests and concerns
  • A focus on developing critical thinking, reasoning and listening skills, helping students build confidence in articulating, questioning and defending their own views while engaging respectfully with others
  • A set of philosophy books for the college, to support continued discussion and independent exploration after the sessions end
  • No cost to the college – the programme is fully funded

Consider P4C

Consider P4C offers a brief introduction to the uses and value of P4C, offers a chance to ask questions, and signposts next steps.

Experience P4C

Experience P4C is an opportunity to take part in an enquiry, to understand how P4C works, and to reflect on its relevance in your context before embarking on Begin P4C –the Level One course.

Refresh P4C

Refresh P4C is for previously trained philosophical enquiry practitioners who feel rusty and need a recap of the basics.

Observe P4C

Observe P4C is a live demonstration of P4C with a class or community, followed by a reflective debrief for teachers or leaders.

Extend P4C

Extend P4C offers post-Level One practitioners a range of ways to develop philosophical enquiry in specific settings or subjects and to develop new skills.
