Alyson Meredith
Academic Trainer
Alyson is a Lecturer in Primary Education specialising in sustainability and critical thinking. She integrates P4C across BEd and PGCE programmes, developing student teachers’ enquiry skills through dialogic, reflective practice. Her work connects P4C with education for sustainability, global citizenship and professional learning within higher education.
Alyson is a Lecturer in Primary Education with specialisms in sustainability, design and technology, computing and geography. Her work focuses on developing student teachers’ critical, creative and reflective capacities, with P4C woven through BEd and PGCE programmes to strengthen enquiry‑based, dialogic learning.
She is particularly interested in how P4C supports education for sustainability, global citizenship and outdoor learning, and how philosophical enquiry can empower learners to question assumptions, explore ethical issues and engage thoughtfully with complex real‑world challenges.
Alongside P4C, Alyson has a long-standing interest in pedagogies that nurture oracy and values‑led practice. She previously worked with the British Council supporting international teacher development, with a strong emphasis on thinking skills linked to sustainability.
Alyson is also a director at Ethical Addictions Coffee, a direct‑trade, ethically driven business working closely with coffee-growing communities around the world to support sustainable farming, fair partnerships and community-led development.
She is also a wife and mum to three boys, passionate about the outdoors, nature, sustainability, people and community – commitments that deeply influence both her personal values and her professional practice.
