Dr Charlotte Blease
Charlotte is the author of the critically acclaimed books Dr Bot: Why Doctors Can Fail and How AI Could Save Lives (Yale, 2025) and launched by the Taoiseach (Prime Minister of Ireland), and co-author of The Nocebo Effect: When Words Make You Sick (Mayo, 2024). She has been a Patron of Thoughtful since 2016.
Charlotte is an interdisciplinary health researcher and philosopher of medicine. A former Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School, she is Keane Scholar at OpenNotes, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. She has previously held academic appointments in the USA, UK, Ireland, and Germany.
She is passionate about education, including Philosophy for Children, and the public understanding of medicine and healthcare. In 2015 Charlotte co-founded Philosophy Ireland, an all-Ireland network of teachers, philosophers, and educationalists who aim to promote philosophy at all levels of Irish society. She was instrumental in promoting the pedagogy Philosophy for Children in her capacity as Curriculum Adviser on the Irish curriculum’s Junior Cycle Short Course in Philosophy. Her philosophy outreach work has been recognised by the President of Ireland.
