Gary Byrne
Gary is deeply committed to embedding Philosophy for Children (P4C) across primary school curricula, and is currently in the final stages of opening an organisation called ‘These Kids’. This initiative aims to use P4C, Emotional Logic, and Public Speaking to support children and young people and in particular, boys and young men, to think freely, feel clearly, and speak confidently.
Gary’s educational journey is rooted in personal experience and resilience. After overcoming early personal and academic challenges and navigating a non-traditional route into higher education, he earned his degree before qualifying as a primary school teacher. Throughout his career, philosophical inquiry served as a guiding principle. A safe space that encouraged constant questioning and personal growth.
Today, as Vice Principal, Gary serves the Birmingham community in which he grew up. He has applied P4C techniques extensively across diverse school settings both in the UK and internationally. Recognising that academic education alone is nowhere near enough to overcome social disadvantage, Gary is passionate about leveraging philosophical inquiry and P4C to dismantle educational barriers. His work focuses on fostering agency, critical thinking, and articulate expression in children and young people, ensuring every student is given the guidance and voice to speak on and seek out the future they deserve.
