Jane Yates
Thoughtful Trainer, Cumbrian SACRE, RE Hubs, Anti-Racist Cumbria, Cumbria Development Education Centre, Humanists UK and the University of Cumbria
Jane is a Thoughtful Trainer, facilitating P4C Level 1 and 2 training and supporting schools on the Grow P4C Project. She has had key development roles on several Thoughtful (formerly SAPERE) Projects including Thinking Together in Science and RE, Thinking with Nature and the Welsh Equalities Project.
Jane Yates has been facilitating philosophical enquiry with pupils and teachers for over 30 years across Cumbria, Scotland, Wales and internationally. As P4C Lead in a rural primary school, she guided the school to achieve P4C Gold status in 2017, with reaccreditation secured several times since. She recently trained and supported Ysgol Panteg, the first Welsh-language immersion school to become a Thoughtful P4C Gold School.
Originally rooted in outdoor, environmental and global education, Jane has become increasingly involved in Religious Education over the past 15 years. As RE Adviser to Cumbrian SACRE and North West RE Hubs Lead, she provides advice, training, conference presentations, project management and resource development. She is an Executive Member of the National Association of SACRE (NASACRE) and works with Humanists UK as a trainer and Assemblies for All Co-ordinator. She is also a volunteer and facilitator with Anti-Racist Cumbria.
Jane is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Cumbria, funded by Culham St Gabriel’s Trust, exploring Untranslatability in RE.
She lives in Cumbria with her husband and has two children at university.
