Jude Penny

Jude worked as a primary school teacher in an East London school for 16 years, where she received her Level One training in P4C and practised with children aged 7 to 11. In 2010, she joined the initial teacher education (ITE) team at the University of Gloucestershire as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education, introducing P4C to the ITE programmes and Education Studies. She joined the University of South Wales in September 2023, bringing P4C to the undergraduate and postgraduate ITE programmes.

Her professional interests include dialogic teaching, teachers’ questioning and of course, philosophical thinking.

Jude recently contributed a chapter entitled, ‘Becoming philosophical student teachers’ in Kizel, A. (2023) Philosophy with children and teacher education: Global Perspectives on Critical, Creative and Caring Thinking. She has contributed presentations and workshops on the topic of P4C at annual conferences such as the Association for Science Education (ASE), the Universities’ Council for Education of Teachers (UCET) and the University of South Wales Partnership Conference.

As a Level One P4C Trainer, Jude is passionate about the power and value of P4C and she is keen to continue her own learning and advocacy of this important pedagogy!
