Kate Halliwell

Having been a Primary P4C Lead for four years, supporting the school in achieving its Silver Award status, Kate became a Thoughtful P4C Trainer in January 2019.

Since then, she’s been introducing philosophical dialogue into the lives of various communities across the UK. For seven years, she’s worked with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) ITE students; encouraging them to consider a more philosophical approach to teaching and learning. She is also involved with SHU’s (EEF funded) Talk with Tales for Children (TWiTCH) project; coaching nursery practitioners to nurture rich, story-based, dialogic talk with two to four-year-olds. 

As a P4C trainer/facilitator, Kate’s contributed to various Thoughtful projects, such as The Welsh Equalities and Young Plato projects, and her specialist areas include: GrowP4C; the Curriculum for Wales; dramatic enquiry and embodied learning; P4C and film; P4C and art and P4C within the community. 

Some of her community projects include: running philosophical workshops with migrant women; young adults with autism and in collaborating with Koestler Arts, a prison arts charity, using the artwork of people within the criminal justice system as the stimulus. She also project manages an annual, three-hour Late: Philosophy event at Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery, where people are invited to engage conceptually with the exhibitions in inspiring, imaginative and deeply human ways.
